Landscape design work can help transform your home. It can leave an impression on visitors and neighbors, and support you in building your ideal property. But only by working with the leading local professionals can you achieve that unparalleled appeal within your property. And so, to help you navigate the marketplace and make the right choice for your home, Brian-Kyles is outlining five questions to ask before selecting a residential landscape design company, in this latest post.

  1. What is Your Experience in the Market?

In analyzing any landscape design firm, it’s important to look at their experience within the industry. Are they able to prove their years of local experience helping local homeowners? Do they have examples of their past work and its impact on their past clients’ properties? These are important questions to ask when analyzing the services of a potential landscape design specialist.

  1. What Types of Services Do You Provide?

You might be considering a special type of landscaping work for your home. In this case, it’s important to review the company’s full scope of work and their quality of services. Are they able to offer both landscape design and landscape management work? This can be helpful in ensuring that you can establish a long-term relationship with the business and keep your newly landscaped space in peak condition for the coming years.

  1. What is Your Working Process?

Before signing a deal with a landscape design company, it’s critical to consider their working process. The company should be able to highlight all elements of their working process for you and introduce you to some of the team members who will be involved. This process should include a discovery phase, in which their experts sit down with you to discuss your ideas for the project and take a look at your budget. It should also include a fully planned design phase in which the site is mapped and the full design is implemented from walk-through to final approval.

  1. Can We Meet with the Team Members Before the Project Begins?

Before inviting work teams to your home, you should be able to meet them and discuss their experience. Make sure you’re comfortable with their team members and their working process. This will help ensure the lines of communication remain open throughout the project and you’re able to ask questions as the work is completed.

  1. Can You Provide a Timeline for the Project?

In working with any company, they should be able to outline their timeline for the design and landscaping work. This should fit with your requirements and should be confirmed before you sign any paperwork. Ensure the timeline includes any planning and final approval on your behalf before proceeding.

Thanks for letting me know that you should ask about the full scope of work and the quality of the services a landscaping company provides. My husband and I just moved into our first house, so we don’t have any equipment to take care of our lawn. We’d rather not invest a lot in things like a lawn mower, so we’re thinking of hiring a professional to care for our landscape for us. We’ll definitely ask about the services they provide to see what other maintenance options we have.

Meeting with the team members before hiring is a great idea to help figure out if that company will be the one that works best for you. Communication, as you said, is very important, especially in something so artistically-rooted as landscape design. I’m trying to turn my backyard into a sort of stray cat garden, because I’ve been feeding the stray cats in the area and I want them to have a safe place to come sleep and eat and even stay if they want. If I could meet the team beforehand, I would also be able to see if they’re allergic to cats.
